‘The Ocotilla camp is an important element in the history of Taliesin West because of its use of textiles for an overhead roofing. While he was working on his Autobiography, he was also building Ocotilla, and his own description of the camp has the sense of something in the making rather than the description of a finished building. “The box-board cambins,” he wrote, “are connected by a low box-board wall with a horizontal zigzag-for the same reason  Thomas Jefferson worm-walled his brick.” [The reference is to the low brick serpentine wall Jefferson designed for his buildings at the University of Virginia. ed.] “It will be self-supporting and this will complete the compound.
