Description

This issue is the magazine’s first monograph dedicated to the Lisbon-based practice of Manuel and Francisco Aires Mateus. Over the last 30 years, the brothers have gained international recognition for their poetic yet respectful contemporary reinterpretation of Portuguese architectural tradition. Their conscientious articulation of spaces to capture time is visible in both newly built projects and preservation projects working with the traces of the past. An introduction by Ricardo Carvalho and an interview with the architects shed light on more than 20 projects, among them the Trinity College renovation, EDP Headquarters, Santa Marta Lighthouse Museum, and many houses.
