Description
Following the exhibition held at Nottingham Contemporary in 2010, this publication is the second part of the “Star City” project. It documents the interaction of the post-communist era with the Khrushchev Thaw of the 1950’s and early ‘60s, and the Soviet avant-garde of the Revolutionary period, with special attention given to the utopian, religious and scientific thought of the Russian Cosmists and the 19th and early 20th centuries. With texts and interviews by David Crowley and Boris Groys, among others, the investigation travels through colorful propaganda, archival photos, lost architecture and conceptual artworks from a range of locations behind the Iron Curtain.
