Description
The Dragoman’s two-storeyed stone mansion, built towards the end of the eighteenth century in the old town of Nicosia, is the most important example of Cypriot urban architecture in the last century of Ottoman occupation (1779·1878). The guide to this unique monument provides a detailed architectural description of the mansion, a historical analysis of the Ottoman office of Dragoman, a biographical note on Hadjigeorgakis Kornessios, as well as an account of the history of the mansion and of the family which owned it. Also included are chapters on the relative sources and documents, the restoration works and the architectural evolution of the building, as well as on its present-day function as a museum. The guide is amply illustrated with photographs of the exterior and interior of the building, the objects it contains, as well as historical documents.
