To commemorate the life and work of Dennis Sharp (1933–2010), Sharp Words collates together a variety of essays that touch upon each of his architectural fascinations – among them, glass architecture, picture palaces, masters of concrete and English modernism.

Dennis Sharp (1933-2010), architect, writer and critic, trained at the AA School and Liverpool University, and returned to the AA in1 968 as AA editor and senior lecturer. He was founding editor of AAQ and World Architecture, and edited many other journals and books. His publications include Modern Architecture and Expressionism, Twentieth-Century Architecture: A Visual History, The Modern Movement in Architecture and Connell Ward & Lucas. He was awarded the Medaille d’Argent and the UIA’s Jean Tschumi Prize in recognition of this work. Sharp was also vice-president of the AA and the RIBA as well as an active member of DOCOMOMO and CICA (International Committee of Critics), and his award-winning architectural practice collaborated with any international architects including Santiago Calatrava and Kisho Kurokawa.
