Description

Description

In 1991 the exceptional and illustrious work of this Galician architect merited the attention of the publishing arm of the Almería College of Architects, which devoted a monograph to him in its Documentos de Arquitectura collection (no. 16), an issue that has long been out of print. Over the more than fifteen years since then his work has continued growing in an exquisite relationship to nature, with the sea of Galicia as an important protagonist.

This volume includes Portela’s reflections on his more contemporary work, accompanied by the photographs and plans that are typical of the Deados series. Presented herein are some of his more celebrated and best-known buildings (Fisterra Cemetery, Córdoba Bus Station, the Museo do mar in Vigo), plus other, more recent ones-fifteen in all, either in project or built form-such as the Caixanova Head Office and the Auditorium and Convention Centre in Vigo.
