SOM journal 4 is the fourth issue in a continuing series presenting the work of SOM, one of the world’s foremost design firms, in the context of a critical discussion. The process of review by a jury comprised of leading figures from the worlds of art, architecture, and engineering, during which projects are evaluated critically is a daring enterprise unique to SOM and illustrates the firm’s commitment to excellence and innovation. This jury was held at the Alvar Aalto Studio in Helsinki, Finland, on June 27, 2004.

Projects featured (selection): 7 WTC, Creative & Performing Arts High School, Schloss Velden, Pin-Fuse JointTM, ARB Bank Headquarters, United States Air Force Academy Cadet Chapel Restoration, West Bay Office Tower, Memorial Sloane-Kettering New Research Building and United States Census Bureau.
