The answer to the question what type of building should house this museum elicits but one answer: an imposing brick, concrete or glass fortress that leads visitors through presentations of national historical highlights.
But what is good museum architecture?
Sketches for a National History Museum explores this question. Kenneth Frampton and Hans Ibelings wrote essays, researchers at the Berlage Institute made design sketches, and three young European architecture firms, 51N4E, Baukuh and Monadnock, submitted plans to encourage thinking about a new museum architecture.
