Description

In retrospect, architectural commissions over the last fifty years or so for public buildings have generated a number of celebrated designs that are still of great influence to contemporary practice. This monograph surveys 47 public building projects, starting with Le Corbusier and Oscar Neimeyer’s Ministery of Education and Health building in Rio de Janeiro and ending with Morphosis’ Caltrans District 7 Headquarters Replacement Building, Los Angeles. Other architects with works featured include: Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen, Frank Lloyd Wright, I.M. Pei, Michael Graves, Richard Rogers, Toyo Ito, Jean Nouvel, OMA and Hans Hollein. Each architect’s building is introduced by a short introduction, plans and elevations, along with both interior and exterior photographs.
