Ten years after Ito gained widespread attention with his design for the Sendai Mediatheque seems an opportune moment to examine what the architect has done since then. This up to date survey examines works, projects and competition entries – the overwhelming majority yet to be realised – through multiple models, technical drawings, sketches and complex structural plans. Accompanied by three insightful and wide-ranging interviews with Ito, the publication contains such works as his “Les Halles” competition entry, the BAM/PFM project for the University of California, the Taichung Metropolitan Opera House in Taiwan and the Za-Koenji Public Theatre in Tokyo.
