Description
Anna Nakamura and Taiyo Jinno created EASTERN design office in Kyoto in 2003 and this office possesses a remarkable sense of scale. While maintaining a level of modesty they enjoy the plastic freedom that comes with the scale of residential buildings. It is not that they simply discard unnecessary structure but rather on the many disadvantageous sites often seen in Japanese cities, they assert the existence of architecture by first establishing the external reinforced concrete wall. Then they draw what may be observed as random free curves on the wall surface. Projects include the Slit House in Shiga (Japan), Villa Saitan in Kyoto, Horizontal House in Shiga, MON factory/house in Kyoko (Japan), and a Dining Bar in Kyoto.
